What’s opening: Loving Art, Making Art 2013

PicFrame (14)

This weekend will take place the annual Art event “Loving Art, Making Art”. The event will be spread for the first time between two different weekends, October 31 – November 2nd and November 15th- 16th (I’ll write more on the festival’s second part in an upcoming post).

Much controversy arose over the event and 30 galleries have decided to ban it. This is due to an ongoing tension between the municipality and the galleries, who are asking to receive property tax (arnona) reductions, as they consider themselves as key players in the city’s so called efforts to promote culture. These galleries are for now seen by the municipality as regular commerces and therefore end up paying the regular (high) tax which is assigned to such venues.

So Loving Art Making art is not that loved by everyone, but offers a nice introduction and celebration of our Art scene (although, as mentioned above not a complete one, with many established galleries missing from the list).
