PRESS RELEASE

Tavares Strachan, is a New York based contemporary conceptual artist whose multi-media installations investigate science, history and mythology. In his premiere showing in Israel, the artist will present the latest in a series of “exploded” text works in neon. Titled “Here and Now,” the show consists of three phrases arranged in sprawling formations of fragmented neon light installed against black backdrops that simulate the void of outer space. Focused on the idea of belonging, the phrases evoke an existential, political and personal context.

* Following the recent events in Israel (“Operation Pillar of Defence”), Tavares Strachan has decided to change the configuration of his upcoming show at the gallery.
Instead of hanging the whole show simultaneously, it will be divided into three parts which will be presented one week at a time, coming to a conclusion in the third week of the show and continuing to be presented for the remaining two weeks.

The visitors are invited to come several times and to see the evolution of the show.

טברס סטרצ’ן, הינו יליד איי באהמה, החי ועובד בניו יורק. בעבודותיו, המשלבות סוגי מדיה מגוונים, ישנן התייחסויות למדע, להיסטוריה ולמיתולוגיה.

בתערוכתו הראשונה בגלרית דביר, “Here and Now”, יציג סטרצ’ן שלושה משפטי נאון “מפוצצים”, על רקע שחור. השילוב בין הנאון מחד, לרקע השחור מאידך, מתכתב עם תחושת הריק האינסופי של החלל החיצון.

תוכן המשפטים מעלה שאלות של זהות, השתייכות ותהיות בהקשרים אקזיסטנציאליסטיים, פוליטיים ואישיים.

עבודה זו היא האחרונה בסדרת עבודות המורכבות ממשפטים “מפוצצים”, הכתובים בנאון.

סטרצ’ן ייצג את הבאהמס בביאנלה של ונציה 2013.

* בעקבות ארועי “מבצע עמוד ענן” החליט האמן טברס סטרצ’ן להציב את תערוכתו בגלריה דביר ברחוב נחום 11 בשלבים.

 החלק הראשון יפתח ביום שישי 30.11.2012, בשבוע השני יתווסף מיצב נוסף ובתחילת השבוע השלישי תושלם ההצבה.

 במשך השבועיים  הנותרים תוצג התערוכה במלואה.

 הקהל מוזמן לבקר בגלריה לאורך התהליך ולעקוב אחר התפתחותו.
