My Life: Arty Childhood Memories
This is the house where I lived until I was 10 years old and which is situated on Gordon Street in Tel Aviv.
The street is very famous for its art galleries, and in the future I intend to post articles about each of them here.
The buidling was designed by the architect Louis Redstone in the Bauhaus style which is very common in Tel Aviv, as I have mentioned before.
Here you can see even more photos of this style.
I have lots of nice memories from this place, one of which is that my mother used to take me to the next door art gallery, Mabat Art Gallery where we used to chat with the owner Ephraim.
Yesterday, I was in a nostalgic mood and I therefore decided to get in and say hello.
Ephraim recognized me but did not remember my name.
We discussed all sorts of things and talked a bit about how quiet art galleries are for the moment, while the news were on the TV in the background.
I also had a look at the exhibition “Near-Far” which presents paintings by the artist Nachsholi Barak and which is curated by E. Ben-Yakir. I liked the exhibition because the artist has created a mixed atmosphere of loneliness and togetherness in his work, which seems to be a universal feeling we all share. I also admire the papier mâché quality of Barak’s paintings and the fact that he includes writings in his paintings.
